War Crimes
Many people believed that Hirohito should have been tried for war crimes or even should have killed himself after Japan surrendered on September 7th, 1945, following the Samurai code and ritualistic practices, however little evidence of war crime activity was found. Japan would have been left without an Emperor and the island nation might be in a very different position than they are today.

General MacArthur"Douglas MacArthur saved Hirohito's life, which made the General a hero in Japan. His occupation policy created a good relationship between the U.S.A. and Japan. He is now one of the best ten politicians we have had in our country in 70 years."-Minoru Maeda

The following is a quote taken from a conversation between General MacArthur and Hirohito after WWII:
"He consoled the Emperor, by saying that that as long as the people were loyal to him, everything would turn out fine.
MacArthur: I say this is because the healthy situation prevails among the Japanese people is demonstrated by the unswerving respect and affection they have for you.
Emperor: Your comments have been truly helpful."-Daikichi Irokawa, The Age of Hirohito
